Hacking Sustainability with Retro Glazing - Secondary Glazing

RETROMIXER has long been recognized as a simple yet innovative solution for homes with separate taps, delivering both water efficiency and energy savings. With over 60,000 units sold, our patented adapter has made a tangible impact—helping users reduce water consumption by an average of 43% and energy use by 35%, all with a return on investment in just nine months.

In recent years, we’ve taken significant steps to expand our product range and enhance the sustainability of our manufacturing. We’ve strengthened our intellectual property, refined our customer segments, and grown our sales both in the UK and internationally. But we know there’s still more to do.

RETROMIXER is just the beginning. Our mission is to develop smart, accessible solutions that empower individuals to lower their carbon footprint. We believe in “hacking sustainability”—making eco-friendly choices easy, affordable, and practical. Our vision is to build the RETRO platform, a brand that not only delivers innovative products but also educates and inspires sustainable living.

Today, we’re thrilled to introduce the latest addition to the Retro Family: Retro Glazing.

Introducing Retro Pane – Smarter Secondary Glazing

Retro Pane is a secondary glazing panel designed to tackle heat loss in homes with single-glazed windows, a common challenge across the UK. Like Retromixer and Retroblinds, Retro Pane is a non-intrusive, retrofittable solution that significantly improves energy efficiency—without the need for structural changes.

Enhanced Thermal & Acoustic Performance

  • 50% Reduction in Heat Loss
Retro Panes creates an insulating air gap, cutting heat loss by 50% and keeping rooms warmer for longer. Where possible, the air gap can be adjusted for even greater thermal performance, helping to lower energy bills.
  • 25% Noise Reduction
The ultra-grip foam surround forms a secure seal, reducing direct contact with the window. This design absorbs sound waves, lowering noise levels by 5.8dB (25%)—perfect for busy urban environments.
  • Ideal for Listed Buildings
Our patent-pending, tool-free press-fit installation makes Retro Panes particularly well-suited for listed buildings. Since secondary glazing doesn’t alter a property’s structure, it is generally permitted in protected homes.

With operational hubs in Bristol, London, and Scotland, Retro Glazing is rapidly expanding to serve a nationwide market. This marks another step in our commitment to helping homeowners reduce their environmental impact through practical, effective solutions.

A practical guide to a greener lifestyle (Part 2): the art of disposal

A practical guide to a greener lifestyle (Part 2): the art of disposal

In the second part of our practical guide to a greener lifestyle, we focus on the most obvious kind of pollution that is not that easy to deal with – waste. It is pretty annoying because it seems that in many industrialised countries, including here in the UK, most people don’t know how to dispose of many common products, which are sometimes very toxic to the environment. This means that they often end up in a landfill site, which is the second worst solution (winning only with dumping it somewhere illegally).
